Funeral held for Chicksands-trained female soldier killed in Afghanistan.

The funeral of the first British woman to die in active service in Afghanistan has taken place at the church where she was married.

Corporal Sarah Bryant, 26, was buried on Monday at the Holy Trinity Church in Wetheral, Cumbria.

Cpl Bryant had been based at Chicksands during her training, and was a member of Psychology Operation Groups.

She died last month when a roadside bomb tore through the vehicle she was travelling in during an operation near Lashkar Gah, in the Helmand province.

Three other soldiers also died.

Her husband, parents, friends and Army comrades gathered at the 17th century church overlooking the River Eden.

A party of six pallbearers, close comrades and friends carried Cpl Bryant's coffin, draped in the Union flag with her beret, belt, campaign medals and a single red rose on top.

Her husband, fellow soldier Cpl Carl Bryant, and her parents Des and Maureen Feely, followed behind.

Lt Gen Sir John Kiszely, Colonel Commandant of the Intelligence Corps, was also among the mourners.

Cpl Bryant's husband said of her: "Although I am devastated beyond words at the death of my beautiful wife Sarah, I am so incredibly proud of her."

Can marathon runner Paula Radcliffe and badminton star Gail Emms win Olympic gold for Bedford?
Paula's injury and the quality of Gail's opponents might make it tough.
I'm backing Paula to fulfil her dream at last.
Gail must do it after her fabulous first round win with Nathan Robertson.
Come on girls! You both can do it!
