Renault Clio leaves road and crashes through hedge in Maulden.

A young man has died after the car he was driving left the road, collided with a hedge and rolled over into a front garden.

James Gilmore, 19, of Flitwick Road, Maulden, suffered severe head injuries in the collision, which took place in Ampthill Road, Maulden, at 7.50am on Sunday.

He was taken to Bedford Hospital South Wing by ambulance, but died from his injuries on Monday.

The red Renault Clio Mr Gilmore was driving was the only vehicle involved in the incident.

Fire and ambulance crews attended the scene. Paramedics fought to stabilise Mr Gilmore at the scene before taking him to Bedford Hospital South Wing for emergency surgery.

Police closed the road for more than four hours to allow a full collision investigation to be carried out. The road was reopened at 12.27pm.

Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to contact PC John Loughlin at Bedfordshire Police's collision investigation unit on 01234 842469.

What do you think about Government proposals to double the size of Yarl's Wood?
After what we've been through in Bedfordshire with the riot and fire five years ago, I'd rather the facilities were built somewhere else.
Fair enough, we have got to house failed asylum seekers somewhere.
It's a recipe for disaster housing foreign criminals with immigrants who have outstayed their visas and others going through the fast-track immigration process.
