Riverside well represented at Vauxhall Recreation Club

Riverside Tennis Club sent a strong contingent to the Bedfordshire Mini Orange and Mini Green Individual Circuit finals on Saturday.

The event, held at Vauxhall Recreation Club in Luton, featured the cream of the county's top tennis youngsters, who had already previously battled it out in 13 events across Bedfordshire in order to gain a place at the finals.

In the boys' Orange event, Riverside's James Wallace outgunned Leighton Buzzard's Ben Proud in a closely fought final.

Team mates Krishna Chintamreddy, Jack Ciuro and Sam O'Meara also competed in the six-strong finals.

There was an all Riverside final in the girls' event, as Elena Salmon overcame Caitlin Ashman in a marathon match to become the girls' county champion.

Elsewhere, Flitwick & Ampthill's Peter Jamieson was one of five finalists in the boys' Green event, which was won by Buckinghamshire's Michael Shaw while, in the girls' event, Riverside's Octavia Cavill won all of her four matches to take the title.

Claudia Johnson and Harriot Ensor-Clinch, meanwhile, were the other club finalists.

The events were sponsored by TRS Total Racquet Sports, who also kindly provided the match balls, as well as medals and raffle prizes, with all proceeds being donated to Cancer Research.

TRS managing director Chris Sarti said: "It has been fantastic to see so many juniors competing at such a good level.

"The different colour grades and balls really help the juniors play the game of tennis on a court that is the appropriate size for them.
He added: "We support mini tennis 100 per cent and hope to sponsor more events across the county."

Today's Vote

What do you think about Government proposals to double the size of Yarl's Wood?
After what we've been through in Bedfordshire with the riot and fire five years ago, I'd rather the facilities were built somewhere else.
Fair enough, we have got to house failed asylum seekers somewhere.
It's a recipe for disaster housing foreign criminals with immigrants who have outstayed their visas and others going through the fast-track immigration process.
