Weather plays havoc with weekend programme
It was a poor weekend for Ampthill and Flitwick in the Bedfordshire County League Premier Division as both sides suffered defeats to Clifton and Leighton Buzzard respectively.
In a low-scoring encounter, Ampthill were just short of their target, going down by just seven runs.
Clifton were indebted to Tariq Murtaza, whose 70 enabled them to post a score of 168, Gary Russon the pick of the Ampthill attack with 4-40.
In reply, Alex Walker made 57 but his efforts were in vain as the visitors came up short.
It was also a low-scoring clash at Leighton Buzzard where the home side came out on top by 23 runs.
Flitwick's attack shared the wickets around as Buzzard were restricted to 160-9, Tom Scott making 43.
This proved to be too many for the visitors, who were bowled out for 137, Carl Ferguson finishing unbeaten on 39.
Ampthill IIs were involved in a thrilling tie with Kempston Hammers in Division One.
Batting first, Kempston were bowled out for 175, a score that Ampthill matched as they fell one run short of victory.
Oliver Woodhouse and Daniel Phillips took three wickets apiece as Harrold got the better of Henlow by three wickets.
Woodhouse took 3-48 and Phillips 3-23 as Henlow reached 215-7, a target Harrold passed seven wickets down, Anthony Woodhouse making 45.
In Division Two, Eversholt beat Ickwell IIs by a close four-run margin.
Eversholt scored 175-7 before Ickwell replied witrh 171-7.
S Stevens was the star of the show for Potton as they thumped Kempston Hammers' IIs by 10 wickets.
Stevens took 4-37 as Kempston were rolled over for 103 before hitting an unbeaten 50 in his side's reply.
G Mohie got in on the act for Potton with an unbeaten 50 of his own.
Flitwick IIs eased to a six-wicket win against Sharnbrook IIs in Division Three.
Sharnbrook were dismissed for 148, a total Flitwick passed for the loss of four wickets, Phil Gurney leading the way with 61.
The inclement weather played havoc with the Bedford & District League programme with only two games seeing any cricket played.
In the Premier Division, Westfield beat Wilden by 69 runs in a game reduced to 28 overs per side.
Westfield scored 145-6 before Wilden struggled to 77-9, W Ali taking 3-17.
In Saracens Herts League Division Seven, Kings Langley had reached 111-3 in the 25th over against Eversholt when rain brought a premature end to proceedings.
