Viking duo net promotion
Buckingham and Johns shine
Viking Kayak Club's Aaron Buckingham and Becky Johns both secured promotion to canoe slalom's Division One following their performances in Yorkshire at the weekend.
At the Howsham Weir Slalom event, Buckingham, 13, and Johns, 16, needed either a win or two high place finishes to achieve their aims.
Johns made sure of her place in the top flight with victory in Saturday's event while Buckingham, after missing out by a single second on Saturday, produced two clear runs the following day to secure Division One status. As a result of her success, Johns moves up to the top 75 women paddlers in the country, while Buckingham is now ranked in the leading 150.
