Winners announced in Calor Bedfordshire Village Of The Year competition

Sharnbrook has been named the 2008 winner of the annual Calor Bedfordshire Village Of The Year competition.

Parish councillor June Barnes, who led the entry, said: "We are a caring village and I think that really came across in the competition.

"We do a lot of things to include people, such as our 'Welcome to Sharnbrook' scheme which lets people who move here know about what events are going on, our good neighbours scheme and the lunch club. It is about people supporting each other and giving them the opportunity to become part of our community."

Judges made two-hour visits in May, and the village will now go forward to the national event.

Bromham took the special environment award, and the special achievement prize went to Wyboston, Chawston and Colesden.

Today's Vote

Can marathon runner Paula Radcliffe and badminton star Gail Emms win Olympic gold for Bedford?
Paula's injury and the quality of Gail's opponents might make it tough.
I'm backing Paula to fulfil her dream at last.
Gail must do it after her fabulous first round win with Nathan Robertson.
Come on girls! You both can do it!
